Blockbuster

So I went to Blockbuster today. We got this thing in the mail that said if you rented one new release you could rent anything from the middle of the store for free until 4th of July. The store listed on the flier was the one that just closed but I figured the other one in town would still have the promotion. I read the fine print, made sure there was no bar code and put it on my list of stops while running errands.

Well after a long drawn out discussion on the phone with Steven while trying to juggle the baby, we had a selection and headed to the front. I tried explaining to him about the deal and he had no idea what I was talking about. It went downhill from there:

Blockbuster Employee: Do you have a blockbuster card?
Me: I have a phone number. Can you use that?
BE: How about a picture ID?
*I hand him my driver's license and he looks up my name*
BE: I don't see your account here. Would it be under a different first name?
Me: *Thinking, WTH?!* Um...it might be under a different last name, my maiden name.
BE: Ok what's that
Me: Ferrell
BE: Uh...
Me: F-E-R-R-E-L-L
BE: Nope not under that either.
-Pause-
BE: Do you know if you have an account here? Like, are you sure you have one?

Me: Yes. But my husband is the usually the one who carries the card and everything. Can you look up him?
BE: Sure. What's his name?
Me: Steven
BE: Oh ya I saw him in there.
Me: Ok good.
*awkward pause*
BE: Can you verify the address for me?
Me: *thinking: our current address? our last apartment? our townhouse? steven's parent's house?*
BE: The one in Arizona...
Me: *Gave him Steven's parent's address*
BE: *smiles* yep that's it.
Me: Can you add me to his account?
BE: Yes I can. And there's a $1.07 in late fees on his account.
Me: Awesome. Add that on too.
BE: Your total is $5...

Honestly I just felt like saying, "I'm normally not this stupid" or "I actually have a Master's Degree. Surprising huh?"

The RIDICULOUS part about this is that I OPENED THE ACCOUNT and STEVEN GOT ADDED TO IT LATER!! Honestly. The cards have my maiden name. I can even tell you which store I was at when I opened it (Ogden, UT and I had to have an account to check out all these movies for my 'writing about baseball' English 102 class). I have had them change my maiden name to my married name like 3 times and I'm willing to bet he didn't add me to the account tonight.

Why did they even send that advertisement to ME with my MARRIED NAME with the address for a store they just shut down and then not have my name in the system?

And...we didn't even watch the movie tonight.

Babysitters.

Up until about two weeks ago, we always took Quintin with us on date night (minus the time we were in AZ and he stayed with grandma and grandpa).
Well, we learned the hard way that he is too big for this now.
Feb. 11
First, we went to see a movie (Gnomeo & Juliet-funny!). He was asleep when we got there. Normally, he would stay asleep. Well he decided to wake up SCREAMING. After walking around outside the theater with him for a bit, we went back inside and I stood in the aisle thing and watched half the movie. Then, Steven spilled most of our candy all over the floor too. The rest of the movie, Quintin had this uncanny ability to coo at the screen every time it was supposed to be quiet.

After, we decided to go to dinner. We ordered pizza at the restaurant knowing that it required at least 20 minutes to cook. Well Quintin (who hadn't had a nap all day) decided to let everyone in the restaurant know he was there. This led both Steven & I to take turns going out in the hall and walking around with him. At one point, I was out and the waiter came and told Steven there was a new cook on duty and our pizza had been burned-another 20 mins. (but on a positive note-we did get it for free) After what seemed like a year, Steven finally got Q asleep and the pizza was ready. I cut up Steven's pizza into tiny pieces so he could eat while holding Q. Of course Q woke up right as I was finishing and we had ordered dessert.

We fought him off as long as possible but when we finally left, he screamed the whole way home until I could feed him and knock him out for a good nap.
Morale of the story? Baby Quintin is too big and nosy to go on date night with mom and dad.

All in all, one of those nights we knew for sure that we wouldn't have handled the experience well if we hadn't been married.

Here's a picture from the restaurant. Faces describe everything haha.

Note: It's not that I won't leave Quintin with a babysitter...it's that I can't. He 'forgot' how to drink out of a bottle when we got back from Christmas break. I don't feel comfortable leaving him with someone when I know he'll just scream a good majority of the time. So, we're looking forward to having a good schedule with cereal and then eventually baby food so we can leave him. Until then, it's grandma and grandpa or loud date nights!

Grandma Dorn's Visit

Steven's mom was able to visit us for the weekend at the beginning of the month. It was a great help to have an extra pair of hands. I think she probably got tired of doing all our dishes, but I got a lot of homework done and I really appreciated all her help! While she was here, we also got kind of brave and went out and did stuff. We went to have an early dinner together at Ground Rounds and then we went to the movies and saw Secretariat. Q slept through most of it, and there were only 4 other people in our theater so I fed him in the dark when he woke up. He got to see the last race part too. The next day, Steven took his mom and Q for a walk around campus and I got to stay home and do hw. Then, they came back and we all went to the community carnival our apartments were having. Again, Q slept through most of it...and a lot of it was for older kids. But, we did get Q his first balloon hat and took a funny picture together. The rest of the time Becky was here, we watched stake conference at home, they cooked lots of good food, and we got to catch up on sleep while she snuggled Q. It was sad to see her go! We are looking forward to coming home for Christmas in a few weeks! Here are some pictures of Grandma D's visit!

22

So my birthday was last Saturday. Here are the highlights:
-Joleen and the kids came and kidnapped me and took me to Ihop for breakfast. I haven't got to hang out with them for awhile and I loved it.
-Anna took me to see Eclipse (for the second time-don't judge us) on Friday afternoon and it was wonderful again!
-I called and talked to my dad (we share a bday) on Friday which was his Saturday. He loved his present and it was just good to talk to him. We haven't really missed celebrating our birthday together since I was born.
-Steven and I stayed up until it was 12:01 AM and I opened the package from my mom and the card from my in-laws.
-My sister Talia was the first to text to say Happy Birthday and Steven only beat her to it by half a second.
-Baby D let me sleep in for 2 extra hours (minus bathroom trips). It was awesome!
-Steven showed up to the house with flowers after his flight.
-We tried to go to a clay center that we thought was a paint-your-own pottery place. It was more like a non-profit place with a small exhibit in the front. But, the guy gave us the background and the whole tour of everything.
-Steven and I ran errands and he bought me a storage ottoman that I've been wanting.
-Anna and Sam came to visit and brought me pink flowers and chocolates!
-Steven made me dinner.
-We installed the AC unit in our bedroom. (Steven also slammed his finger in the window in the process)
-My mother in law called and I got to talk to her.
-Steven took me to see the Eclipse movie again.
-Steven made me birthday cupcakes and we ate all but one by ourselves.
-My phone stopped working at noon on my bday so if you text me or called me, I didn't get it but thanks anyways!
-Joleen & Mike and Sarah all threw me a combined FHE birthday party the following Monday. Sarah picked up a sweet pinata and Joleen made a wonderful ice cream cake. It was fun to celebrate with so many good friends. And, I didn't even know it was a bday party until we got there. Here's some pictures from that because I didn't feel like having any other pictures taken that weekend :)

PS Steven said he was going to post 22 things he loves about me...we'll see what happens!

Cold Hard Ticket

So I'm being forced somewhat against my own will to write this blog. But I guess I'll go along. The story of the day was the parking ticket we found posted to our frozen windshield as we left to go run some errands. Man I was irritated, how was I supposed to know that on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays from 1am to 6am Its illegal to park on one side of the street. Apparently the snow plows have to clear the streets on those days. Ignorance is no exception to the law, but having the police station to be right around the corner is really not helping our cause.

As far as the rest of the day we finished hooking up all the electronics in the office and I made some phone calls to figure what loose ends I still have to tie up to start school. We tried to pick up my Aero-notebook(laptop for UND aviation) but I needed my ID card. (definitely should have thought that through a bit more) I think today we got our first taste of wind chill. It was a positive eight but felt like -40 with the 15mph wind.

Tonight we watched "Harry Potter the Half Blood Prince". We've been having a kind of movie marathon each night this week. We've watched "My sisters Keeper", "The Blind Side", and "Harry Potter" in the past three days. I think we re both ready for school to start. Cabin fever is getting to the both of us:)
