Friends

Quintin has lots of little friends here. He is learning to share (or at least watches the other kids take his stuff). He is pretty good as long as momma is close by!

Mar 7: Grad Party

Steven threw me a little grad party for Family Home Evening. He made lots of food and invited over our 'grand forks family'.
Some of the food.

I didn't take any pictures during the party except:

There was lots of good food and even better company. The question I got asked most frequently was, "How does it feel to be done?" My answer: "It feels like a giant weight that I didn't even know was there is lifted off my shoulders".

We are truly blessed to have good friends here. As we told everyone it was Family Home Evening, we thought it best to have some sort of message. I shared this quote:
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, A Prayer for the Children (Apr 2003 CR, 90)
“Live the gospel as conspicuously as you can. Keep the covenants your children know you have made. Give priesthood blessings. And bear your testimony!11 Don’t just assume your children will somehow get the drift of your beliefs on their own. …
“Nephi-like, might we ask ourselves what our children know? From us? Personally? Do our children know that we love the scriptures? Do they see us reading them and marking them and clinging to them in daily life? Have our children ever unexpectedly opened a closed door and found us on our knees in prayer? Have they heard us not only pray with them but also pray for them out of nothing more than sheer parental love? Do our children know we believe in fasting as something more than an obligatory first-Sunday-of-the-month hardship? Do they know that we have fasted for them and for their future on days about which they knew nothing? Do they know we love being in the temple, not least because it provides a bond to them that neither death nor the legions of hell can break? Do they know we love and sustain local and general leaders, imperfect as they are, for their willingness to accept callings they did not seek in order to preserve a standard of righteousness they did not create? Do those children know that we love God with all our heart and that we long to see the face—and fall at the feet—of His Only Begotten Son? I pray that they know this.
“Brothers and sisters, our children take their flight into the future with our thrust and with our aim. And even as we anxiously watch that arrow in flight and know all the evils that can deflect its course after it has left our hand, nevertheless we take courage in remembering that the most important mortal factor in determining that arrow’s destination will be the stability, strength, and unwavering certainty of the holder of the bow.”

Live Nativity

Each year, our ward does a live nativity. It's outside (yes in ND) complete with animals. Inside the building is caroling, treats, a room full of nativity sets from around the world, and it ends with the First Presidency Christmas Devotional. Steven and I were wisemen. We missed our first shift and when we went later, they left us out there for 2x our signed up shift. It was freezing. I guess that's what we get for coming late. I still don't know the purpose of this activity, but I was a little let down. I would have rather had a ward Christmas dinner. Oh well.

I'm in blue, Steven's to my right.

Thanksgiving...hey better late than never, right?

Thanksgiving this year was cold. We had a minor encounter with some ice which swirled our car around to have us facing the opposite of where we started on the way to dinner. But other than that, we survived the blustery cold. Dinner was held with two of our friends, the Eagers and Lecates. I have to say for 3 young families who have never done Thanksgiving by ourselves, I think we did a bomb job. I took pictures of ALL of our food, but I'll spare you the details.

After dinner, all the men fell asleep and the ladies played skip-bo. I haven't ever played it before, but it was fun!

After the men woke up from their food coma, we ate pie and then headed over to the Ironroads to party with them and the Piersons. Ok we played Apples to Apples and ate more food. The only one I really remember is Steven picking "My love life" when "Neglected" was the adjective. The love life card was mine...but hey I just had a baby and everyone laughed.

After games, we went home and skyped my mom. It was weird to not have family around for the holiday, but we are lucky to have good friends here!

ROTC Football Game & Veterans Day

Last Tuesday, the 9th, we went to the Alerus Center (the giant indoor football field) to see the UND Army ROTC play the UND Air Force ROTC at flag football. Q slept through EVERYTHING...including the drum line performance at half time. Steven and I aren't loud people so I don't know how he does it, but I'm not complaining. Army won, which is good because we went for our friends who are in Army ROTC. It was a fun night...I wish we wouldn't have been 30 mins late though (it takes a lot longer to get out of the house these days!)

Last Thursday for Veterans day, we followed our family tradition of sleeping in and then going to IHOP. We go to IHOP for all our patriotic holidays...it's random and there's no particular reason for it. Q came of course and...yep you guessed it, slept through everything. It was fine though because it actually felt like a real date. Oh and there was this family behind us that totally stared at us...well Q...the whole time. Well the mom and the three kids stared at us, the dad tried not to notice. We could hear the mom asking the kids if they wanted a baby brother or a baby sister next...awkward for the dad. Besides IHOP, Steven flew, I snuggled Q, and it was a good break from the normal school schedule.
